As if washing dishes wasn’t tiring enough, you might find that your sink drains clog and choke sometimes. It could occur completely by accident or it could be accompanied by warning signs. However, a blocked drain is a serious problem that must be addressed immediately to benefit all.

We share some tips that will help you fix a blocked drain without causing panic attacks.

Vinegar and Baking Soda

These essential pantry ingredients could be there for you when you most need them. Mix the ingredients together in equal amounts, at least 1/3 cup each. Once the mixture has reached a light golden color, pour it into a drain and allow it to sit for at least an hour.

This chemical reaction will cause all of the grime and dirt to be released from your drain. Once you flush it with hot water, the problem will disappear.

Boiling water

Boil a kettle of water, and let it steam through the sink drain several times. This tip is both the easiest and most useful. It can be done every other day or every two to three days.

Caustic soda

Caustic Soda, also known as Sodium Hydroxide or Caustic Soda, is another chemical that can be used to clear clogged drains. You can easily find it at your local hardware store. Make sure you have good eye protection and rubber gloves. The chemical can cause serious burns if handled incorrectly.

Take an old bucket and fill it with about three-fourths of a gallon of water. Add three cups of caustic soda to it. Use a wooden spoon to stir the mixture.

The solution will quickly heat up and turn into effervescence. Take all safety precautions and hold the bucket high before pouring the caustic soda solution down the drain. The drain will be reduced by the boiling hot, fizzing solution. Allow it to sit for about half an hour, then drain the water with boiling water.

Detergent

Mix a cupful detergent in a large bowl with boiling water. Let it drain. The detergent ingredients will help get rid of greasy deposits. For a better and more thorough cleaning of your drain, you can use a snake or a plunger.

For better results, repeat the process a few times and rinse it off with hot water at the end.
