Hello! Vince Attardo. Speaking to you on a subject that comes up often. Today it’s dealing with plumbing and DIY (Do-it-yourself) or should I Hire a professional Long Beach Plumbing company?
Obviously, whenever you can do something yourself, I would encourage it, even as a professional, if someone can save time and money, I’m all for it. And then call me on the larger jobs that you really need me on, such as a professional ranking job. First off, if you have a clogged toilet You flush the toilet and it’s not going down all the way.
Or it’s starting to come back up. Or even backing up into your tub. Sometimes it’s just a clogged toilet, so you don’t have to snake the line, which is running a cable through the line to clear it. You can use what’s called an agar, and agar is a hand held device that you can get at Home Depot or Lowes for under $100. It’s a 6 foot cable that has a device at the end of it, which will retrieve things that have gotten clogged; such as your keys, hairspray cap, a bottle of water.
You’ll be amazed the things we’ve pulled out. — rags, 6 pack plastic handles, and the list goes on. It retrieves things, it has a hand crank which you can crank and it’ll do its thing. The benefit, it has a bottom rubber with a 45 degree tilt on it. So it’s not damaging the porcelain of your toilet. You can un clog your toilet and save the $250 minimum to have a progressional come out.
If you can’t get it with an agar, the next step would be to have to remove the toilet. To R&R a toilet could be $250-$350. (Remove and reset, put a new wax ring. You can run the snake from where the toilet water closet is, or the main drain.
The benefit of doing it outside of your toilet and not having to take your toilet off at all, would be using what’s called a CLEANOUT. A cleanup can be anywhere from $750-$2,500, to install a cleanout. Over time, by having service experts come out to do your plumbing, because they don’t have to come into your house with their equipment.
