It’s now time to clean up the kitchen and enjoy a relaxing evening at your home. The water starts running and suddenly your sink clogs. Do you sound familiar? You don’t have to ruin your evening yet. Before calling your local Long Beach Plumbing company, here are some tips.

How Do I Unclog My Kitchen Sink?

Clear The Sink of Dishes. Make sure you have enough space to work with.

Locate the Plunger. The most commonly used tool to push a blockage through pipes is the plunger. A plunger and a little muscle are often enough to push the blockage through the pipe.

Vinegar and Baking Soda. Sometimes, muscle can’t work. Remove any water that remains in the sink. First, pour 1 cup baking soda down the drain. Next, pour 1 cup vinegar.

The combination should begin to bubble immediately. After that, place a stopper into the drain. Wait about 15 minutes before you start running hot water. This may take a few tries before you know if it works.

P -Trap. Open the cabinets under your sink to locate your drainage pipe. The curved section of your drain pipe contains the P-Trap. Before you start, place a bucket underneath that area.

Take out the nuts and loosen the ring. Let any water or debris fall into the bucket. Take a look inside. Is there anything that could be causing the blockage? Then, assemble the P-trap.

Still having a Clog? You might want to consider the next step, using a Plumber’s Snake. In a future blog, we’ll discuss that.
